The Hard Truth: Why Our Pork Costs $10.77/lb to Raise

We believe in radical transparency. When you buy from the grocery store, the costs are hidden by scale and industrial shortcuts. When you buy from On The Edge Farms, you are paying for the actual cost of raising an animal right.

The Numbers (2025 Harvest)

We ran the final math on our harvest:

  • Total Cost to Raise & Process: $3,752.00
  • Total Edible Meat Yield: 348 lbs
  • Break-Even Cost: $10.77 per lb

This means it costs us nearly $11.00 just to produce one pound of sausage or bacon.

Why the Flat Rate ($700)?

Most farms charge hanging weights and fees. We wanted to keep it simple.

We took our break-even cost ($10.77), added a modest 20% margin to fund next year’s feed, and arrived at a flat price of $700 for the Founders Share.

You get ~52 lbs of meat. You pay ~$13.50/lb average. You get the Bacon (usually $18/lb) and the Roasts (usually $14/lb) all for one flat rate.

Thank you for supporting honest farming.
